With the Double Eagles

During the first snowfall of the season a week and a half ago I looked out and there were the two eagles in the tree across the lake. The hints of color still in the leaves contrasted nicely with the snow and black and white of the birds.

Beauty on the Waterfront

This is the Lake Harriet Bandshell along the Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis. It has such a unique place there along the lake with the sailboats in the back. I have never been there for a concert, but I bet it would be fun.

Surprised by the Pictures

Take a close look at the upper lily flower and you will see a dragon fly sitting there. No, I didn't see that when I took the picture. The Guthrie Theater along the river in downtown Minneapolis is a photogenic building. At first it seems like odd angles and such. But take a look at a picture. See the shifts and changes. It now looks like a jazz arrangement put into a building. Quite a place to see theater as well!

This is the then famous, Checkpoint Charlie. It was the Allied/American sector way into East Berlin in 1970. Perhaps one day I will talk about that over on my regular blog. I no longer remember why the flag is at half mast.

The lock has just opened to let the pleasure boat go north on the Mississippi at Lock and Dam # 6 at Trempealeau, WI. It was a Sunday and few barges were traveling. That would be interesting.

Remembering Labor Day

Abandoned and forgotten, part of the old Bethlehem Steel plant in Bethlehem, PA. Someday even these will be lost to time. But the men and women who worked hard in these factories are every bit as much American heroes as anyone. The American worker- often out of sight and out of mind. Thanks, on Labor Day, 2009.

I know it's hard to tell with a still picture, but this bee was moving very slow. It was a chilly morning on the Great River Trail in western Wisconsin and he was just crawling along the flowers but still gathering pollen.
