Ghostly Rails
A view looking north along Pine Creek near Cammal, PA in the late afternoon gives an other-worldly sense to the Conrail tracks as the sun has already gone beyond the thousand foot crest in the west. Looking back from 20+ years later it appears to be an omen as these rails are now long gone. In their place is now a 50+ mile long Rails to Trails biking and hiking trail.

First Pictures (1)
I bought a new camera! It is a Nikon D40 digital SLR. Wow. I love it. With the quality and clarity of the lenses you don't need a "macro" setting. Just take the picture, go to PaintShop Pro and zoom in. As one would expect my first pictures with the new camera were... flowers. Here's a daylily in my front yard. Both are the same original- top at normal, bottom zoomed in. This was taken using the "normal" 18-55mm zoom lens.

Sunsets and People
The continuing lure of water and sun. This one's taken at Tarpon Springs, FL. I believe it was called Sunset Beach- for obvious reasons. People and plants always make sun and water shots more interesting along with some reflected light.

First Birthdays Are Great
Ah, yes. What a joy in those days when eating and sleeping meant so much. I guess they still do, when I think about it. This is scanned from a 35mm slide.

Inside Liberty
I don't know whether you can do this anymore or not in this post-9/11 world. But back in 1993 we could take this long hike up the Statue of Liberty and get this view of the structure inside. This is scanned from a 35mm slide. It continues the theme of lines and angles that shows up from time to time around here.

Flags Reflected at Ground Zero
You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

At the Pow Wow
The beauty of the dress, the contrast of the feathers, the wonder of native dress for the Shakopee, Minnesota Pow Wow last summer. I am glad they continue to live and share their traditions. It makes all of us more conscious of each other.

Rauchtown Creek
There are four waters that have been essential in my life. They have defined my borders and my wanderings. One of them is Rauchtown Creek by Ravensburg State Park in north central Pennsylvania. It is short and to the point, a simple rocky creek that disappears after a few miles. But in its short run it is wonderful!

Sittin' On the Dock of the (Little Sand) Bay
It's sunset on Little Sand Bay along the shore of Lake Superior in Wisconsin looking out toward the Apostle Islands. An evening such as this is always an incredibly pleasing and moving one.
